Because of declining usage, the railway viaduct of the New York West Side Line was effectively abandoned in 1980. Locals advocated its preservation and reuse, in the form of an elevated park. The result became an inspiration to cities around the world and, indeed, to Sebastian Herkner who named this series after the New York landmark.
